Are you in Alabama? I noticed the Nick Saban pic. I’m in North Alabama.

The nicest place I’ve been was Monterey, California. Unbelievably scenic Pacific views. Governor Gruesome Newsom may have ruined the experience now though.

California is very beautiful. Never been to Monterey.

This is more of a "way to travel". My advice is find an event that you want to do somewhere that sounds cool. I used to be really into triathlons. Did them multiple places in Europe, the US, and once in New Zealand. It gives your trip a focus and sort of a "mission", if you will. I.e. Aimlessly wandering the seashore in the Canary Islands is fun, I'm sure. Combing the shops in the Canary Islands for someone who can fix a hole in your wetsuit is a fun mission! At least for me.

I like sports stuff like that. But it can be anything. A heavy metal festival in Germany. A painting trip to Croatia (or for that matter, Idaho). Otherwise I find myself going somewhere and saying "OK, so where's the cool shit?" You don't have to do that if there's a goal. And you can build in extra time for touristy stuff of course.

If you're so inclined the best Ironman Traithlon is in Nice, France imho. But I'm a bit if a francophile.

I can't remember where exactly but I went somewhere outside of Kenya on a safari for 10 days. It was the most magical trip of my life. Just seeing giraffes and elephants walk by and all of the beautiful, indigenous animals in the wild. Also the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets ever. It was a long time ago but I'll never forget it! sabrinalabow.substack.com

Anywhere remote that we can drive to. Airports are so stressful these days. When we lived in MA we had a cottage in Great Barrington. This was my favorite place to chill. Where are you, Thalia?

for me, its getting away from crowds on a camping trip or getting a little cabin in a state park. I have a low tolerance for the high trafficked tourist scene. My husband and I were in Pigeon Forge, TN the end of May for work, and while I found the attractions amusing the first day, I was so done with the cheesiness and the crowds and traffic within 24 hours. This is why cities don't appeal to me either - I feel hemmed in and all the rush around and people and noise just get on my last nerve fairly quickly. For me to take a vacation in a high tourist area or a city, I would need lodging away from the bustle so I could drive in for the day and then leave it all behind at night.

but a camping trip in the woods, sitting around the fire, listening to the birds in the day and the crickets at night, bundled up and reading a book or talking out story ideas, driving up onto the mountain for the scenic view or going to my husband's family cottage in WI on a lake, reading on the pontoon boat in the water and listening to the loons call in the late evening - that is what relaxes me and gives me a sense of peace, and that's usually what I need on a vacation these days.....describing all that just makes me REALLY want a vacation right now!

Visiting my extended family in Cape Town has always been a blast. Love the beaches, the vineyards, fending off baboons that try to steal from the house, stepping in baboon turd outside of the house, table mountain, the list goes on

Love the lake cottage my wife's family owns on Lake Michigan. I can sit in the front room and watch the waves for hours.
