Just remembered that he appeared as an episode villian 1968-69 British TV series 'The Champions', in the episode 'Shadow of the Panther'. When I saw the series a couple of years ago, he looked so familiar and yet so young that I had the hardest time recalling who he was.
For me, the movies and roles are Hawkeye Pierce in "M.A.S.H." (he did it before Alan Alda) and Vernon Pinkley, one of "The Dirty Dozen" (standing out physically and mentally in comparison to his better known co-stars). And his wonderful guest appearance on "The Simpsons": "You are banned, you and your children, and your children's children- for three months!".
But I admire him most for being a Canadian who succeeded in Hollywood without turning his back on where he came from, and being a recognizable and reliable performer no matter what he did on screen.
Accidentslly read the first sentence as “Donald Sutherland announced he has died”
"I got better!"
Eye of the Needle. He played a German spy
He was genuinely chilling as President Snow - pun intended.
Sutherland also played the anachronistic hippie Oddball in the WWII satire 'Kelly's Heroes'.

I loved him in The Dirty Dozen and read a book recently about that film. He was also great as President Snow too.
It's crazy how many movies he was in!
He messed up and went to mess around with those hungry people in district 13 huh? 😁

Cool to know! Didn't realize he was from Canada
Yep- he was born in Saint John, New Brunswick (where MGM found Louis B. Mayer spent much of his youth) and was a Companion of the Order of Canada.
